Infant jewelry was all the rage in the late 1800s. Particularly popular were little bar pins engraved and embossed with cutesy pet names such as "Darling," Baby," "Papa's Pet" and "Mama's Joy" among others.
While these were originally designed to fasten baby gowns, we are sure a few of these endearing brooches secretly exchanged hands between lovers as well.
This fabulous piece was made by Mammoth Wholesale Jewelers of America in 1894. It is fashioned in brass, coated in a heavy rolled gold plating and polished to a high shine. This brooch is a little more unusual than most because the letters have been hand cut out, which makes them really stand out.
This brooch is a great cheeky modern day statement piece and would also be a sweet gift to the one you adore.
