Derived from the Greek word for "blood," hematite has been enchanting civilizations for centuries.
Often found in rocks and soil, this iron oxide crystal with its metallic shades of silver has been used in everything from mirrors and pigments to war paint and jewelry.
Hematite is thought to have healing, magical and balancing properties in addition to acting as a protective cloak. For thousands of years, it was worn to protect oneself from curses and spells. It was also used to protect from excessive bleeding such as during childbirth or on the battlefield.
This wonderful ring is made of sterling silver with contrasting 10k yellow gold wing flourishes on each shoulder. The centerpiece features a hand carved hematite intaglio of Hermes, the Greek messenger god and the divine trickster.
Hermes is also known for guiding souls to the underworld, as well as being the patron god of merchants, thieves, travelers and athletes.
