Art Deco Uranium Glass and Gold Gilt Filigree Bangle

This exquisite bangle is guaranteed to turn a few heads -- but you'll need a black light to reveal its hidden secret!

Filigree jewelry was wildly popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s.  Each expertly crafted piece is its own work of art. Artisans created a number of different delicate metal lace patterns and often incorporated gold gilt, enamel work and non-tarnish coatings, such as rhodium and chromium.

This beautiful bracelet is a testament to the craftsmanship behind these highly coveted creations.

Crafted in a silver tone metal, this bangle features a rather simple, yet delicate vertical lace pattern accented with gold gilt floral motifs. It is hinged on one side and has a dual wire slide system that allows the bangle to open wide enough to slide your hand through.

The real star, however, is the faceted octagonal uranium glass centerpiece!

First developed in the late 1700s, uranium glass gets its name from the trace amounts of uranium (specifically oxide diuranate) that is added to a glass mix prior to melting. This special additive causes the glass to glow vibrant green under ultra violet light.

While the thought of wearing uranium-laced jewelry may sound scary, don't worry! Uranium glass is considered harmless and negligibly radioactive -- no more so than bananas and Brazil nuts.

Cleaning and Care
Clean gently with warm soap and water and a soft bristled brush. Be mindful not to scrub off the gold gilt. Pat dry.
