Though this watch fob may be 200 years old, its sentiment still rings true. It is a reminder to live in the moment and to enjoy all of the beauty that life has to offer for our time in this world is short.
Watch fobs rose to popularity alongside the advent of pocket watches in the 1770s. They originally were worn and adored by both men and women, however in the 19th century they became more commonly associated with men's fashion.
Once the fad of pocket watches went by the wayside, many fobs were re-imagined into ladies charm bracelets or worn on necklaces, which is still popular today.
This gold gilt French fob is particularly fetching with its pansy and floral side detailing and its memento mori glass intaglio featuring a sprig of roses and the somber message, "We bloom today, tomorrow die."
This fob also functions as a wax seal and was caked in wax remnants when we found it.

The gold gilt is starting to wear in a few spots. There is minor chipping on the beveled edge of the glass intaglio, but it does not effect the integrity or the functionality of the piece.
Cleaning and Care
Clean with mild soap and water and a soft bristled brush, if needed. Do not use harsh chemicals as it can damage the gilt.
