Simple and chic with rich hues and classic elegance, this beautiful antique ring has a strikingly modern appearance.
Handcrafted in 10k rose gold, this piece is harboring a secret of its own! While the stones may look like rubies, they are actually garnet doublets!
Widely used in antique jewelry, doublets are a type of assembled gem designed to imitate other, more expensive or fragile gems. This particular doublet is a garnet and glass doublet, which is made by fusing a clear garnet on top of ruby red glass.
Garnet and glass doublets were first used in the 1850s when it was noted that molten glass would adhere to garnet. It was a popular imitation for all types of colorful gems because the color of the glass was the only color that could be seen. Garnet and glass doublets were still being utilized in the early 1900s until actual synthetic gems were invented.
A great, easy-to-wear piece to add to your everyday ring rotation.

The center stone has a small chip under one of the prongs, but is still set securely. Chip is only noticeable under magnification. Our guess is that the stone was re-set at some point and that's when the chip happened.
