Victorian "Dinna Forget" Banded Agate Wax Seal Fob Necklace

Watch fobs rose to popularity alongside the advent of pocket watches in the 1770s. They originally were worn and adored by both men and women, however in the 19th century they became more commonly associated with men's fashion.

Once the fad of pocket watches went by the wayside, many fobs were re-imagined into ladies charm bracelets or worn on necklaces, which is still popular today.

This delightfully demure fob is fashioned in beautiful white and banded agate capped in brilliant hand chased sterling silver with a silver bale. Given its petite stature, this piece was most like worn by a woman and the wax seal intaglio suggests that perhaps it was a gift from an admirer.

Engraved at one end is a delicate Scottish thistle, a symbol of devotion, resilience, strength and determination. Surrounding the thistle are the words "Dinna Forget," which translates to "do not forget" and comes from an old Scottish poem titled, "Dinna Forget Me."

The other end of the seal is blank. Seal comes on a new sterling silver chain.
