1930s Cast Iron Hubley Monkey Doorstop

Calling all animal lovers! Have we got the cheekiest little monkey for you!

Crafted in cast iron by the Hubley Manufacturing Company in the 1930s, this handsome helper was originally designed to be used as a doorstop. However, we think he would make a great addition to any curio cabinet, side table or mantel!

Incorporated in 1894 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania by John Hubley, the Hubley Manufacturing Company was predominantly known for creating cast iron toys, such as horse-drawn vehicles, banks, steam shovels and motorcycles with sidecars. 

However, in the early 1910s, the company added household items such as bookends, doorknockers and doorstops to its repertoire. It didn't take long before the company became one of the most prolific doorstop makers of its time. 

While the Boston Bull Dog (or terrier as we call them today) may be the most common Hubley doorstop -- with the company's flower basket and cat designs a close second -- this full figured hollow monkey door stop is one of the more rare Hubley pieces. 

This three piece casting is held together with its original screws and it has its original paint. Many of these pieces have been repainted over the years. 

Every Hubley piece is painted by hand, giving each one a folk art quality and ensuring that no two are identical. 

It is stamped with the number 4 on the bottom.
