Designed to showcase a century of progress since the incorporation of Chicago in 1833, the 1933 Chicago World's Fair was a futurist's dream.
Taking place during the height of the Great Depression, the fair offered an optimistic glimpse into a (hopefully) not-too-distant future where science, technology and the American life would merge into the perfect utopia.
Initially slated to last only a few months, the fair was extended until the fall of 1934 to help boost public morale during the difficult economic times.
As with previous (and future) World's Fairs, these events were a marketing and souvenir haven! From pickle pins to enameled tables, there was no limit to the souvenir game at the World's Fair.
This vampy little lady was sold during the fair's extension into 1934.
Made of composite with wool hair and painted like Mae West or one of the many other pre-code actresses of the day, this sachet is wrapped in berry and yellow silk chiffon and filled with tiny dried flowers (which sadly no longer have a scent).
She comes in her original box and truly is a rare treat. We have been unable to find another one!
The perfect addition to any World's Fair or Art Deco collection!

I think this piece probably spent the majority of its life in its original box. Overall, she is in almost like-new condition. However, the silk chiffon is starting to shred in the front from age.
