Warwick Ioga Portrait Tulip Vase

The Warwick China Co. started producing affordable dinnerware, vases, jardinieres, teapots and more in 1887.  They were known for their iconic brown glazed pieces often decorated with portraits, fruit and flowers.  The company was located in Wheeling, West Virginia and closed their doors in 1951.

Warwick specialized in transferware.  Transferware is when an image or pattern is applied to a copperplate and transferred to paper which is then applied to pottery (primarily china or porcelain).  This process made it less expensive and more efficient to produce gorgeous prints and patterns on household products.

Our vase not only depicts the iconic brown color but also features a transfer of a beautifully dressed woman with long locks, a flower in her hair and a sparkling brooch.  This vase is finished in a matte glaze with a scalloped edge at the top.  The initials M.F. are etched into the back of the vase.
