Victorian Parian Ware Hand Vase

We love a good hand vase and this Parian piece may just be our favorite! With its matte, marble-like appearance, this vase adds just the right amount of ghostly pallor to any setting.

Parian ware is a type of fired, but unglazed porcelain. It was first invented around 1840 by the British company Copeland and Garrett and was given its name because of its resemblance to Parian marble.

Often confused for the more popular bisque porcelain, Parian ware is a hard-paste porcelain that is fired twice, giving it a hard, smooth impenetrable surface (unlike its porous bisque counterpart).

This beautiful vase features a woman's hand with a delicately detailed lace cuff and pearl bracelet holding a tulip bud, a symbol of love and charity.
