Victorian Sardonyx Signet Ring

These days many people view signet rings as a cool, engraved initial ring their grandfather or great grandfather used to wear. When in fact, signet rings have played a significant role in history since 3500 BC.

Primarily worn by nobility or those of extreme wealth, these unique, decorative rings often denoted ones royal, noble or even godlike stature, such as those worn by Egyptian pharaohs. Signet rings also were used as official stamps and signatures on some of history's most important documents.

Fortunately, by the 19th century owning one of these beautifully custom inscribed rings became more affordable and the signet ring became less about stature and more about fashion and expressing ones creativity.

This stunning 14k rose gold Victorian sardonyx signet ring is an untouched blank canvas ready to be engraved with your family crest or your initials or whatever your heart desires!

The stone is made up of three layers: black onyx, white onyx and black onyx. Depending on how deep you engrave the piece, you are guaranteed to end up with a cool black-and-white work of art!

While this ring was initially created and marketed as a gentleman's piece (we found almost an exact copy of it in the S. F. Myers and Co, catalog from 1894), it flatters everyone's hand beautifully! We would totally rock this as an index or middle finger signet piece!

Stone has a few faint surface scratches consistent with wear. If you have it engraved, you will probably lose most of those. The engraved design on the shoulders of the ring shank are worn from age and wear, but doesn't detract.
