Scorpions are often feared and revered when one goes scurrying by, but for thousands of years, these eight-legged arachnids have been considered sacred, symbolic creatures in a number of cultures.
When fashioned in jewelry, the scorpion was often worn as a protective amulet, and is believed to symbolize many things including death and rebirth; determination and courage as well as patience, resilience, passion and self awareness.
And we all know how much those superstitious Victorians loved their symbolism!
Crafted in sterling silver, this exquisite little guy is composed of nine beautiful faceted garnets and two pink ruby eyes.
It looks as though it may have had a gold vermeil wash at one point, but it is almost all gone.
While this is technically a brooch, you could easily style it as a pendant as well.

As mentioned above, we believe this had a gold vermeil wash at one point, which has be rubbed off. Some of the stones have minor abrasions, which are consistent with age and wear and only noticeable under magnification.
Cleaning and Care
Clean gently with soap and warm water and a soft bristled brush. Lightly polish with a jewelry polishing cloth, if desired.
