Barcley Corsetry Company was founded in 1899 in Newark, New Jersey. The founder, Harry W. Barcley, was an expert tailor who saw the potential for a made-to-measure corsetry service. His efforts proved fruitful and in 1927 Barcley Corset Co expanded across the ocean to England.
This Barcley Corsetry Service sign is likely from the 1920s or 1930s. It promotes the company's commitment to custom tailored corsets and undergarments.
This sign features a heavy reverse painted black piece of glass with the letters removed, the negative space is backed with eye catching corrugated aluminum metal.
The aluminum reflects the light and truly makes the letters look as if they are holographic. The glass is securely held with a brass frame. There are four tabs on the back of the sign for mounting, though one has broken.
This sign would have originally hung in a shop window but will now make a wonderful display in your home.
This item is available for US domestic shipping only.
Additional Details
Date: 1920s/1930s
Materials: Brass, Glass, Metal
Measurements: 15 1/8" x 10 1/4" x 1 /14"
Markings: None
Condition: Very Good
There are a few very minor superficial scratches to the glass but they do not detract. One of the tabs for screwing this sign to the wall has broken off. The metal backing of this sign is starting to come unattached from the frame. We recommend securing the backing before hanging on the wall or instead of hanging, simply prop it up to ensure the back does not come unattached while on display. Please note this sign is very heavy!
