The birthstone for the month of February, amethyst has been considered a prized gem for centuries.

A favorite among royals, bishops and saints, the word amethyst derives from the Greek word amethustos, meaning sober. It was said that wearing amethyst could prevent a person from getting excessively drunk and would keep the wearer's mind still and sober.

Throughout history, amethyst was thought to have many different attributes -- all of them good -- including controlling evil thoughts, strengthen intelligence, protect from contagious diseases, encourage calm, bravery and contemplation and to bring forth the highest and purest aspirations of human kind.

This exquisite ring features a claw set oval cut amethyst in the most beautiful shade of lavender. Stone measures 9mm x 7mm for approximately 1.34 carats and is so clear you could lose yourself in it.

The band is crafted in 14k rose gold and features lovely engraved detailing on each side of the stone. The inside of the band is engraved with the initials M. I.

Unlike many rings of this era, this stunner is also a larger, more wearable size.
