Mostly considered a novelty today, pendant watches have ebbed and flowed in popularity since the 1500s.
A precursor to the pocket watch, these dangling necklace watches originally were worn by women of extreme wealth. But as time ticked on (and prices dropped), pendant watches became less of a status symbol and more of a fashion statement -- becoming the preferred watch of choice among women in the belle époque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.
This stunning coffin-shaped watch hails from the mid- to late-1920s. It is made by Brunvil, a subsidiary of Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain. The striking case is crafted in sterling silver with exquisite deco floral enamel detailing.
It has a manual Swiss movement with 15 jewels and 3 adjusts and comes on a sterling chain.

We have not cleaned or serviced this watch, but it does run and keep time. Enamel has light scratches consistent with age and wear, particularly on the back. There is a small crack in the blue enamel on the front near the stem. It is mostly noticeable under magnification. We chose not to overly polish this piece and left some of the aged patina.
