This truly is a rare treat for all you spider and spider web lovers out there! We have searched and searched for over a year and have not found another one like this piece. It really is remarkable!
Hand carved in butterscotch yellow celluloid, this exquisite hair barrette is mostly likely of French origin. Its curved shape allows it to sit comfortably within or below your coiffure at the back of the head, which is how it was originally designed to be worn.
This lovely clip has the artist's initials BLK carved into the back corner, but unfortunately, we have been unable to verify who they might be.
Clip fastens with a silver metal bar (which has been cleaned since these photos have been taken) and a C catch.
Date: 1890s - 1900s Materials: Celluloid, Metal Measurements: 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" Markings: Signed BLK Condition: Very Good The C catch and the tube hinge have some corrosion and verdigris, which is visible through the celluloid. The hinge end looks like it may have some under-the-surface cracks from hinge stress or possibly being dropped in the past. The cracks are not on all the way through and the piece is structurally sound. However, we would recommend being very gentle when securing it to your hair.
