This stunning Gibson girl is as intriguing as she is beautiful. It is almost impossible not to fall in love!
Hand carved from a solid piece of burl wood, this lovely lady looks as though she is frozen in time; eagerly waiting for a kiss from her betrothed.
Burl wood is a highly coveted, knobby looking growth that forms on a tree caused by unsprouted bud tissue. Stress caused by injury, viruses, insects and fungus create intense grain patterns throughout, making no two burls exactly alike.
The older the wood growth, the burlier the grain and the bigger and more intricate the voids and mineral staining.
It is very obvious by the deep voids and incredibly burly grain, that this piece was carved out of a very old tree.
We love the way the artist utilized the burl to create depth and texture to the hair. It almost has a weird tentacle look to it. It wonderfully compliments her smooth, milky skin.
This one-of-a-kind piece is signed by the artist and designed to hang on the wall, but make no mistake, she is no delicate wallflower. Measuring at just shy of 11" tall, this burl beauty is life sized!
Truly a statement piece and perfect for any Art Nouveau lover!
As an added bonus, we are including an incredible, original pen and ink drawing on 11" x 14" Bristol board by Richmond illustrator Ed Harrington, who was so inspired by this piece that he had to capture her likeness on paper. Just like the burl, this artwork also is one-of-a-kind and will never be reproduced.
