You can never be too careful when it comes to that pesky Trump! That's why it's always best to have an indicator to know whether he's around or not. One wrong move and your game could be over!
Luckily for you, we have the cutest little marker to help you keep your suits and trumps all in line.
Designed to be used while playing the popular 1800s card game, whist -- as well as its latter forms, bridge whist and bridge -- this handy yet sometimes obscure gadget helped remind players of the trump suit.
Since there is no bidding in whist, trump was decided by turning the last card face up at the conclusion of the deal. However, the card was then placed back into the dealer's hand, making it easy to forget which suit was trump.
This beautiful tabletop marker hails from around the turn of the century. It is crafted in an early thermoplastic with a tortoiseshell base and celluloid flowers with hand painted accents. It has a thick scalloped edged paper wheel that can be turned to display the current trump suit as well as a "No Trump" game.
Since this marker has the "No Trump" indicator, it would have originally been used and designed for the game bridge whist, which began in the 1890s and was popular in the early 20th century before becoming the game bridge that we know today.
