This beautiful couple is a testament to true love that spans a lifetime and beyond!
The story of how we acquired these two pieces is a bit serendipitous.
About a year ago, Olivia purchased the gentleman's portrait from a little roadside shop, unbeknownst to Kath. Many months later, Kath happened to end up at the same little roadside shop and purchased the woman's portrait, which was not there when the gentleman's portrait was initially purchased.
So now this young couple is reunited once more and we think it's pretty clear these two are never meant to be apart.
Based on their appearance, we believe that these images were taken sometime in the 1860s. Both photos are captured on tin and set into matching vulcanite lockets.
Each of these pieces would originally have had a functioning locket door and pin back, however both have been removed at some point. They will need to be propped or creatively situated to display vertically.
Additional Details
Date: 1860s
Materials: Vulcanite, tin
Measurements: 2 3/4" x 2"
Markings: None
Condition: Good
Lockets are missing their original door and pin back. The gentleman's photo has a few faint scratches that are only noticeable under magnification. The woman's photo has a few small spots where the tin has oxidized, most notably near her mouth. Looking at it under magnification, it almost has a creepy, zombie-esque look to it. Definitely adds some spooky character.
