Doves have long been held as a token of purity, peace and love, making them a popular motif in love tokens and marriage symbols in the 19th century.
The way the hand is gently holding this tiny creature makes us think of the old proverb "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," meaning the things you already have are more meaningful than the things you might get.
Pair those two together and that makes this one sweet and sentimental little piece.
Crafted in ghostly white milk glass, this exquisite two-piece covered dish was created by the Atterbury Glass Company sometime between 1889 and 1903. It features an incredible, highly detailed three-dimensional lid with a woman's hand holding a small dove.
The bottom dish is fairly deep and has a lovely lacework trim. It would make the perfect dresser dish for all of your trinkets and treasures.

The ring and the bird's eye both initially came with a glass stone, which is missing. Personally, we like it better without the stone. It keeps the piece simple and sweet. There is a small hairline internal crack on the side edge of the lid. It does not go all the way through and shouldn't affect the integrity of the piece.
