“Do not let the past disturb you, just leave everything in the Sacred Heart and begin again with joy.”
-- St. Teresa of Calcutta
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is perhaps the most regarded and well known Catholic devotion. Representing Jesus' physical heart, it is often depicted wrapped in a crown of thorns and is viewed as a symbol of "God's boundless and passionate love for mankind."
Frequently pictured together is the equally powerful Immaculate Heart of Mary. Usually adorned with flowers and pierced by a sword, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is seen as a symbol of faith and compassion.
Whether you practice the faith or just love religious iconography, seeing these two hearts together always makes for a compelling piece.
Made by nuns in 19th century France, this exquisite religious ex-voto is set in a tin frame with domed glass. It features two silk puffy hearts -- Sacred and Immaculate -- stitched on inky black velvet and adorned with a golden embroidered cross at the top.
Hailing from the Latin phrase ex-voto suscepto, meaning "from the vow made," ex-votos are often worn or carried as devotional items as well as to give thanks for answered prayers and wishes.
We think this piece would look stunning on a thick velvet ribbon and worn as a choker.
