This beautiful brooch may be tiny in scale, but its sentiment is immense.
Contrary to popular belief, hair jewelry was not always mourning jewelry. Sometimes these intricately woven pieces were created as love tokens from sweethearts, family members and cherished friends as a way to feel closer to the other.
Handcrafted in 10k gold, this sweet piece is fashioned in a crescent moon shape, signifying the desire for a new relationship to one day transition into a marriage, just as the crescent moon transitions into a full moon.
Encompassing the moon is an array of inky black polished jet in a geometric motif and in the center is a tiny lock of plaited hair set behind a crescent moon shaped piece of glass.
But the real heart-melting moment occurs on the back with the words "Forget Not the Giver" and the initials I.R.W written in exquisite script.
This is definitely one of the sweetest (and most goth) sentimental pieces we have ever seen. It would be a great addition to any Victorian hair jewelry collection.

A few of the jet pieces have edge damage, which is no uncommon with jet. One piece has been glued back in. The glass also has significant surface scratches and some edge chips. Inside on the edge there looks to be some verdigris.
Cleaning and Care
Clean with a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water as it will damage the hair. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
