We always strive to find unusual pieces; something you may have never seen before. I think this piece fits the bill, for what we have for you is a taxidermy scarab turtle.
Yes, I know!
It's a real Egyptian scarab beetle mounted as the shell on a tiny turtle body that is floating in the center of a beautiful gold filled pendant. It's the craziest and quite possibly the cutest scarab necklace we've ever seen.
Beautiful bugs AND turtles?! What more could you need?
Symbolically, turtles traditionally represent health and longevity, while scarabs have long been the symbol of rebirth, resurrection and the eternal soul. Pair them together and you may just have some eternal life vampire powers going on.
Date: 1890s Materials: Egyptian scarab beetle, gold filled brass Measurements: Pendant: 1 1/4" x 1", Chain: 19" Markings: None Condition: Good This cute little pendant was as dark as night (and just as dirty) when it came to us. It has been painstakingly cleaned and polished to the best of our ability, but it still has a few imperfections. The bail at the top of the pendant has been soldered on at some point and they did a messy job as there is solder still visible. There is a visible abrasion on the side of the pendant as well as some visible scratches on the back side. If it could talk, this little turtle would have some stories to tell! Minor cosmetic flaws aside, we still think it's a really special piece.
